Alcântara, A trip to the past
Alcântara is a delicacy in ruins. Borned from an ancient indian Tupinamba town, become the head of the rural aristocracy of Maranhão, playing an important paper from the 18th century till the beggining of the republic. From this time, remains an harmonious group of building and ruins tombed by the national historical patrimony since 1948 and considered one of the most importants of the cowntry. Today, the city lives in a curious contrast between past and future, with the instalation of the most modern satelite launching base in Latin America less than 7 Kilometers from the historical city center.
